Under direct supervision, the Accountant I will monitor, review and verify the accuracy of the Credit Union’s general ledger accounts under scope of position. Duties may include receiving, preparing and processing all invoices for payment, processing Member requested wires through various financial channels. Provide support to management and other departments as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The position’s essential duties include the following:
- Codes and distributes all corporate invoices
- Process all internally requested wire remittances through various channels for Credit Union Business and Membership purposes to included but not limited to Federal Reserve Bank, Western Union, Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta
- Process Credit Union and Membership check requests, stop payments for checks and ACH
- Input new vendor information in Accounting system
- Ensures all invoices received are properly authorized and coded for data entry and/or payment by various channels
- Inputs and authorizes all Accounts Payable invoices for payment after approval
- Prints and distributes all Accounts Payable checks
- Deposits all MCI checks received on a daily basis
- Performs monthly analysis as assigned
- Performs monthly General Ledger reconciliations as assigned
- Prepares 1099 miscellaneous file for processing
- Researches and provides copies of invoices as necessary
- Files and maintains Accounts Payable invoices and journal vouchers
- Process annual Credit Union escheat remittances
- Assists with writing of desk procedures for assigned functions
- Serves as primary source for all inquiries pertaining to assigned functions
- Remains cognizant of and adheres to Andrews Federal policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.
EDUCATION
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- At least one year of office experience, preferably in a financial institution
LENGTH OF REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Basic mathematical skills
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Products
- Requires excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of Episys or other PC based accounting software preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires the ability to sit at a desk and computer for extended periods of time. Requires the usage of a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard.
DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY
The incumbent should be able to exercise a good deal of independent thinking and be able to effectively communicate with staff regarding required items needed for processing in a timely manner
