Under general supervision, the incumbent will monitor, review and verify the accuracy of the Credit Union’s general ledger accounts under scope of position. Performs various other duties that may include analysis and financial reporting functions. May review the work of and provide guidance to lower level accountants when necessary. Provide support to management and other departments as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES         

  • Oversees the accounting function of various general ledger accounts, including daily review and reconciliation.
  • Monitors and reconciles assigned general ledger accounts to include researching and resolving outstanding entries notifying the VP-Controller and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of possible issues or losses.
  • Reviews General Ledger transactions and monitors discrepancies detected in balancing functions to ensure timely and accurate resolution of problems.
  • Completes assigned end of month entries, including yield and budget variance analysis and produces assigned reports.
  • Assists with the writing of procedures for assigned functions.
  • Assists as requested with both internal and external auditors.
  • Serves as primary source for all inquiries pertaining to assigned functions.
  • Completes assigned projects within expected time frames, with limited assistance.
  • Provides assistance to other members of the Accounting team as time allows.
  • Develops and implements methods to improve work flow and productivity.
  • Cross-trains on other department functions.
  • Remains cognizant of and adheres to Andrews Federal policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • At least three years of comparable accounting experience, preferably at a credit union. This includes a strong grasp of NCUA regulatory requirements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Must have advanced level of skill using Microsoft Excel in order to accurately and efficiently prepare financial reports, pro-formas, reconciliations, and financial statements
  • Requires excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Working knowledge of Episys or other PC based accounting software preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires the ability to sit at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
