PURPOSE OF POSITION

To manage the DMS operations for both a partner network and internal staff to provide leadership and guidance. In addition to managing individual and team performance metrics, the DMS Manager will also execute and contribute to strategies for the collections team to meet and sustain performance to achieve Andrews Federal Credit Union delinquency and charge off ratios within acceptable levels. Identify trends and issues that impact the Credit Union’s loan portfolio leveraging that knowledge to execute and deliver on existing and future strategies. Assists in the analysis of delinquent loans and the production of a variety of reports to measure individual, departmental and Credit Union performance. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES          

The position’s essential duties include the following:

  • Supervises and coordinates loan collection activities to ensure the appropriateness and effectiveness of the tactics utilizes to collect on delinquent loans.
  •  Adjusts work processes and recommends procedural changes as needed to increase effectiveness and meet departmental productivity and quality  while maintaining operational efficiency
  • Monitors, reviews, analyzes impacts, compiles reports and statistical data on delinquency activities to identify weaknesses and trends in the consumer loan portfolios.
  • Reviews and authorizes recommended payment arrangements, charge-offs, repossessions and legal proceedings.
  • Responsible for the portfolio of charged-off consumer loans, recoveries, settlements, and strategies.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to DMS staff to ensure compliance with credit union policies and procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback to provide staff development. 
  • Coordinates collection activities between stateside and overseas offices to ensure uniform application of established procedures.
  • Appears as witness on behalf of the credit union on legal matters involving collections.
  • Reviewing and resolving complex problems and personally handling member de-escalation calls.
  • Develops, monitors, and adheres to departmental budget plan.
  • Keeps up with federal, state and local regulations pertaining to debt collections, recommend changes when necessary and makes sure employees receive training on any changes in laws.
  • Actively participates with personnel related matters including hiring staff, training new employees, performance appraisals, coaching and counseling, and separation process.                    
  • Attends seminars and group meetings to analyze ways to improve/implement collection activities through innovation, teamwork and technical support.
  • Remains cognizant of and adheres to Andrews Federal policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Interacts, develop and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, members and legal offices, credit union vendors with an appropriate, professional manner which projects a positive image of the department and Andrews Federal.
  • Attends work regularly and according to work schedule; limits absences according to personnel policies regarding leave usage.
  • Ability to work varying shifts including evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION      

  • Bachelor’s degree, in related field or a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions.                                           

LENGTH OF REQUIRED EXPERIENCE        

  • 3 - 5 years

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Requires at least five years of collection experience in a financial institution, including two to three years in a supervisory or management capacity.  
  • Must be able to manage staff onsite and remotely by establishing clear expectations as well strategically communicate with staff to maintain interactions. 
  • Must have strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Must be PC proficient including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Web-Ex and the Internet including skip-tracing and asset-searching skills.
  • Must be able to work well in fast-paced, high stress environment, pay close attention to detail and complete reports/projects under tight deadlines. 
  • Must be able to multitask, be organized, set priorities and follow-through to completion of assignments.
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills, collaboration skills including effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to adjust and interact with all levels of personnel.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills and ability to work independently.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of application federal and state regulation governing collection, repossessions, bankruptcy, and legal collection proceedings.  
  • Ability to read and interpret credit bureau reports.
  • Must be able to negotiate effectively.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time, analyzing data. 
  • Must be able to walk around the office observing staff.
  • Must be able to use general office equipment to include a computer terminal, 10 key calculator, fax machine, telephone and automated dialing collection system.
  • Ability to lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds.
