The System Administrator will report to the Director of IT, Infrastructure and support the Engineering staff. The System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, and partners.
This individual is accountable for the following types of infrastructure systems: Windows Systems; Networking, Storage infrastructures and limited Mac OSX.
Responsibilities
- Effective administration of the Microsoft and VMware environment with a primary focus on Windows system administration in order to ensure that system resources are available to all authorized users.
- Provide network and system support including installation, configuration, deployment and maintenance of server hardware and associated networking equipment.
- Perform patching of Windows Servers and Workstations using tools like SCCM.
- Perform backup and recovery management.
- Administrator for Office 365 collaboration applications such as Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Forms, Power Automate, etc.
- Deploy and maintain SAN storage systems used by Virtual machine environments. Use methodologies that maximize performance without compromising reliability and integrity.
- Provide Tier III support and work with Desktop Support/Help Desk personnel, both internal and external (vendors), to provide fast resolutions for users on desktop/server related issues.
- Participate in after-hours and weekend on call support rotation for end user workstations, network, and servers.
- Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Event Logs, and security-related tools.
- Manage Microsoft Intune Mobile Device Solution for corporate devices.
- Monitor Solarwinds alerts and escalate where necessary.
- Assist in any other directives given by the Director of IT, Infrastructure.
Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required
- 5 years of network administration, or system administration experience
- Experience managing server patching, deploying software and agent packages using tools such as Windows Server Update Service (WSUS), System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), or others
- Knowledge and exposure to network protocols and Windows based networking environment
- Experience installing and configuring enterprise monitoring tools such as SolarWinds to monitor system performance and uptime and quickly respond to issues when they occur.
- Experience with enterprise backup and recovery software; experience configuring software settings, storage policies, snapshots, and catalogs to perform system and data backup and recovery in support of data redundancy and disaster recovery.
- Working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, or equivalent
- Experience in Windows 2016 or above, Active Directory, DNS & DHCP
- Experience in network including knowledge of troubleshooting Cisco switches.
- Knowledge of Windows and Mac OSX Operating Systems
- Related Microsoft certification is preferred.
- VMware Certified Professional preferred.
